Rays pull off improbable ALDS comeback with Game 5 Win - David Price

So it all comes down to this! Win another game at the Trop and punch your ticket to the ALCS against the New York Yankees, or don’t, and go down in history as one of the most recent choke artists. On the flipside, Tampa Bay Rays will look to become just the sixth ever team to battle back from an 0-2 deficit and win a divisional series.

After managing just one combined run in the first two games of the ALDS, the Tampa Bay Rays looked all but cooked heading to Texas for Games 3 & 4. Be that as it may, manager Joe Maddon got his club to produce the way it had throughout the entirety of the regular season in the most dire of situations.

Carlos Pena and Evan Longoria spearheaded the Rays charge with the first baseman going 2-for-3 with a HR and three RBIs in Tampa’s 6-3 Game 3 win and Longoria going 2-for-3 with a HR and two RBI’s in Sunday’s 5-2 win to send the series back to Tropicana Field.

Texas Rangers really put a damper on things for their MLB betting backers and fans over the weekend. The club managed just 14 combined hits and scored just five runs in all. While Elvis Andrus, Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler have pulled their weight, the same can’t be said of Michael Young, Josh Hamilton, or Vladimir Guerrero. “Big Bad Vlad” left five runners in scoring position in Game 4 and both Young and Hamilton are batting below .190 overall.

Looking to help his club avoid the monumental collapse will be veteran southpaw Cliff Lee. In case you already forgot, Lee picked up the win in Game 1 of this ALCS after limiting the Rays to just five hits and a run while striking out 10 through seven innings of work. The victory improved him to a rock solid 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA in six career postseason starts.

He’s been real tough for the Rays to get a handle on going 7-5 with a solid 2.76 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 14 career starts against them. The Texas Rangers won just three of his nine road starts since he came over from the Seattle Mariners.

Nineteen game winner David Price gets a chance to redeem himself after churning out what was a very forgettable start against the Rangers and Cliff Lee in Game 1. The lefty was rocked for nine hits (2 HR) and five runs (4 ER) through 6.2 innings of work. The defeat dropped him to 9-3 and raised his ERA to 2.15 at home.

The hosts have come out on the right side of the scoreboard in 12 of his 17 home starts this season, while going 22-7 the L/29 times Bookmaker Sportsbook installed him as the favorite. That said; he’s had a very rough go of it against the Rangers throughout his career going 0-3 with a bloated 6.92 ERA & 1.58 WHIP in five lifetime starts.

Tampa Bay is trying to join the 2001 Yankees as the only teams to win a best-of-five playoff series after losing the first two games at home. Texas is just hoping to win its first ever playoff series, but screwed the pooch at home over the weekend failing to deliver the knockout blow. With all the momentum now back on their side, look for the Rays to improve upon their 36-21 ($770) 2010 record against southpaws and advance to the ALCS to take on the defending World Series Champion New York Yankees.
