It’s time to rev those engines again and get some money down on the NASCAR drivers sports gamblers believe will do the best in Friday’s qualifying round for the Aaron’s 499.
This week NASCAR takes their traveling racing show to Talladega. Before Jamie McMurray can take home his second straight Talladega trophy, he’s going to want to get the best position he can by going as fast as he can in Friday’s qualifying round.
Below are the best Sprint Cup match-up bets for this Friday’s Aaron’s 499 qualifying round.
Qualifying Day: 4/23/2010
Sprint Cup Qualifying: Aaron’s 499
- Mark Martin -135 vs. Ryan Newman +105 - - Martin started 30th in last weekend’s race and Newman started 10th, but Martin finished much better than Newman and at Talladega there’s no doubt that Mark has almost always had the better car. Newman hasn’t won a pole yet while Martin has won 1 pole far this season. Expect Martin to not only beat Newman in this match-up but to go for a top 3 start in the Aaron’s 499 on Friday.
BetUS Sportsbook Pick: Mark Martin
- Dale Earnhardt Jr. -125 vs. Jimmie Johnson -105 - - JJ’s Talladega issues are well-known but he does have a victory on the track and did start ahead of Jr. last week. But Dale Jr. has won a pole so far in 2010 and JJ has not. Not only that, but JJ started in 4th last weekend while Dale Jr. started in 9th place. That’s not a huge difference. I’ll take the chalk in this match-up under the belief that Jimmie’s car just isn’t as up to snuff on Friday as it has been lately because it’s Talladega.
BetUS Sportsbook Pick: Dale Earnhardt Jr.
- Jeff Gordon -125 vs. Kyle Busch -105 - - Gordo started 12th in last week’s race while Busch started 7th. The belief in this Friday’s qualifying round is that Gordon is going to go for the pole and that he’s keyed up for this race after what happened with JJ in Texas last weekend. Who am I to argue? Gordon will start his run to the victory by getting a top 5 position during qualifying.
BetUS Sportsbook Pick: Jeff Gordon
- Kurt Busch -105 vs. Juan Pablo Montoya -125 - - Last week, Busch had the much faster car during qualifying when garnering an 11th place start while Juan Pablo had to settle for a 21st place start. I believe that Busch might do better again this week. I’m inclined to go with the odds at -105 versus -125. Montoya could, of course, win the pole, he can be that good during qualifying, but Busch has won a pole so far in 2010.
BetUS Sportsbook Pick: Kurt Busch
- Jamie McMurray -130 vs. Tony Stewart Ev - - McMurray won at Talladega in 2009, has won a pole so far in 2010, and started 15th last week. Tony won the pole for last week’s race. There’s definitely more pressure on Tony this week than there is on McMurray as Stewart hasn’t won a race in 2010 and is 13th in the Sprint Cup standings meaning that if the Chase started tomorrow, Smoke wouldn’t be in it. I have to go with Stewart in this match-up.
BetUS Sportsbook Pick: Tony Stewart
