MLB Odds: Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox

Barring a miracle run, the Boston Red Sox are all but eliminated from the playoff race this season. That doesn’t mean they can't derail the Rays’ playoff dreams on Bodog’s MLB odds, or at least stop Tampa Bay from catching New York in the AL East. Tampa Bay Rays is 10-6 against Boston this year after Monday’s series-opening loss to the Sox.
David Price (16-6, 2.92 ERA) will take the mound for Tampa Bay. The lefty has quickly developed into a dominating force, one with a shot to win the AL Cy Young Award this season. David Price was fantastic in his last outing, holding the Blue Jays to a single run through eight innings. This will be his third outing of the year against the Red Sox. He faced them just two starts ago, when he lost after allowing three runs in seven innings. Price won his other start against the Sox, however, surrendering two runs in 7.2 innings of work.
Offensively, Tampa hasn’t been great against Boston this season, hitting .226 through 16 games. At least the lineup has been pretty balanced, with at least seven players owning four or more RBIs. Carl Crawford has probably been the best of the bunch, hitting .305 and adding 10 stolen bases.
Boston will counter Price with Daisuke Matsuzaka (9-4, 4.29 ERA). Though he hasn’t exactly been a stud, Dice-K is giving the Red Sox a chance to win on a weekly basis; he has allowed exactly four runs in each of his last four starts. Solid, if unspectacular. In his last start, it was four runs through 5.2 innings against the Baltimore Orioles. The right-hander has faced Tampa twice this year, and it hasn’t been pretty. Matsuzaka surrendered seven earned runs (eight total) in just 11 innings against the Rays, dropping his career numbers against Tampa to 2-5 with a 4.34 ERA in 11 starts.
The Red Sox have hit for a higher average in this season series (.249) but failed to capitalize in scoring until Monday’s 12-5 win. David Ortiz has unquestionably been their biggest weapon, hitting .365 with four homers and 15 RBIs through 15 games.
