Cliff Lee - MLB Baseball Lines: National League Probable Pitching Matchups

Cliff Lee can add to his Cy Young case with a strong outing in the second game of a doubleheader against the Florida Marlins on Thursday night. Bet on Florida-Philly and every game at Wager Web Sportsbook.

Washington at NY Mets – Nationals LHP Tom Milone (0-0, 6.30) vs. Mets RHP Chris Schwinden (0-1, 9.00). Milone made the second start of his career, lasting 5 2/3 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. It was a much better outing than his Major League debut, in which he allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings. Schwinden replaces Miguel Batista in the rotation and pushes Chris Capuano’s turn to Friday. The rookie right-hander allowed five runs on eight hits in five innings in his MLB debut last Thursday.

Florida at Philadelphia, Game 1 – Marlins RHP Anibal Sanchez (8-7, 3.64) vs. Phillies RHP Kyle Kendrick (7-6, 3.29). Sanchez comes off his third career one-hitter — second of 2011. He struck out 11 Pirates. He is making his 30th start of the year. This will be his fifth start of the year against the Phillies. He has yet to factor into a decision. Kendrick hasn’t pitched since returning from paternity leave. He last pitched on Aug. 24 against the Mets. In a losing effort, Kendrick threw four innings allowing seven hits and six runs (two earned) and gave up two homers.

Florida at Philadelphia, Game 2 – Marlins RHP Alex Sanabia (0-0, 0.00) vs. Phillies LHP Cliff Lee (16-7, 2.44). The 23-year-old Sanabia will make his first start and second appearance of the season. A September callup, Sanabia made 12 starts as a rookie in 2010. In his lone outing this year, he struck out two and walked two in a scoreless inning at Pittsburgh. Lee snapped his scoreless streak at 30 2/3 innings in Saturday’s 3-2 victory over Milwaukee. He allowed just one earned run in seven innings. Lee is in the running for the Cy Young, with Roy Halladay and Clayton Kershaw his two closest competitors.

Chicago Cubs at Cincinnati – Cubs RHP Randy Wells (7-4, 4.73) vs. Reds RHP Homer Bailey (8-7, 4.34). Wells tossed his fourth straight quality start Saturday against the Mets, giving up two runs in seven innings pitched. Well is 5-0 with a 3.02 ERA since Aug. 1, but his worst outing during that stretch came vs. the Reds, when he gave up six runs. Bailey is coming off one of his strongest starts of the season on Friday, when he tossed 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball to beat the Rockies at Coors Field.

San Francisco at Colorado – Giants RHP Ryan Vogelsong (10-7, 2.66) vs. Rockies RHP Jhoulys Chacin (11-11, 3.64). Vogelsong allowed three runs in eight innings Saturday but lost his fifth straight, 3-0, to the Dodgers. He put up a quality start but took the loss, a recurring theme. He has received three total runs of support during his current losing streak. Chacin gave up three runs in 5 1/3 innings in a loss Friday night to the Reds. He made it through five innings, then his command deserted him, and a leadoff walk paved the way for a three-run sixth.

Pittsburgh at LA Dodgers – Pirates RHP Ross Ohlendorf (0-2, 8.03) vs. Dodgers LHP Dana Eveland (2-0, 0.60). Ohlendorf was knocked around for six runs on 10 hits in a two-inning start on Friday. He has not been sharp in four starts since returning from injury. He needs to finish strong if he wants to prove that he should be back in 2012. Eveland was called up mostly as a reward for his Triple-A work, but he’s responded with a pair of masterpiece starts and could work his way into the picture for the 2012 rotation if he can keep it up through September.
