Despite having the home-field advantage, the Rangers come into this one as slight underdogs. And it’s because of New York starter CC Sabathia.

Simply put, Sabathia is a stud, as he was the Yankees- and the American League’s- best pitcher this year, posting 21 wins on the season. While he wasn’t at his best in his only postseason start, he was effective, pitching six innings, and allowing five hits and three earned runs in a Game 1 win over Minnesota in Round 1. As you get set to make your MLB Betting picks though, it’s important to note that Sabathia hasn’t pitched in eight days. How will that affect him? We’ll find out Friday night.

It certainly doesn’t help that he’s going against a much more potent offense than he was in Round 1, with the Rangers boasting one of the best lineups in baseball betting. From top to bottom, they’re spectacular, with four hitters that batted over .300 in Texas’ opening round win over Tampa. The star of that series was second baseman Ian Kinsler, who hit three home runs and had six RBI. His Game 5 round-tripper sealed the Rangers win, as they advanced to the first ALCS in franchise history.

But ultimately, as good as this offense is, what your MLB Betting wager could come down to Friday night is Texas pitcher CJ Wilson. What kind of performance the Rangers get out of him will be key.

With Texas ace Cliff Lee being forced into action in Game 5 of the Divisional series, that puts Wilson on the mound here. And while he had a good regular season (15-8, 3.35 ERA), it was his first postseason start that put him on the map. The lefty threw 6.1 innings of two hit ball, and not allowing a single earned run against the Rays. If Wilson can have a performance anything like that on Friday night, Texas will win Game 1.

And as a matter of fact, with Wilson’s recent track record, that’s exactly what we’re calling for, a Game 1 upset.

While it’s the Yankees lineup that gets all the credit for being an offensive juggernaut, it doesn’t seem like the Rangers get nearly enough themselves. In their three wins in the ALDS, they averaged over five runs per game, and got contributions from their entire order. From leadoff batter Elvis Andrus (.333) to No. 8 hitter Bengie Molina (.357) everybody is hitting for this team right now. And truthfully, having faced the impotent Minnesota Twins lineup these last few games, who knows if the Yankees pitching staff with be ready for it.

Also, remember, Sabthia will very likely be a bit rusty, with almost a week between starts.

In the end, expect a higher scoring game than most are projecting, as each of these teams will flex their offensive muscle. In the end though, expect the Rangers at home, to pull off the upset. Make them your MLB Betting pick.
